Native or Exotic: Flying Squirrel

Flying Squirrel

Native Flying Squirrel

Not to be confused with the exotic “Sugar Glider”, these nocturnal squirrels are native to Connecticut and NOT PETS. For advice/help with a Flying Squirrel, see our page on squirrels.

Grey Squirrel vs Flying Squirrel

Grey squirrels are what most associate with the word “squirrel” since they are seen at all hours of the day gathering and looking for food and shelter material.  So why are Flying squirrels so illusive?  Flying squirrels are nocturnal – meaning they are active primarily at night. They are also much smaller than Grey squirrels and prefer to avoid them.
